Heathkit Transistor Clock Radio Model TCR-1

from 1959

The Heathkit Transistor Clock Radio, Model TCR-1, is a fully portable 6-transistor superheterodyne broadcastreceiver withintegral electric alarm clock. A built-in rod antenna tuned RF stage, and double tuned IF stage provide excellent sensitivity and reduce backgrounc and adjacent station noise to a minimum. The 300 milliwatt Class B push-pull output stage and large 4″ x 6″ speaker are combined to produce full volume and excellent tone quality. A “lull to-sleep” control allows up to 60 minutes of playing time, after which the radio automatically shuts off. The alarm – volume control allows waking up to either an alarm tone or a radio station. Vernier tuning is provided for ease in station selection. The Conelrad frequencies, 640 kc and 1240 kc are marked by the solid triangles on the tuning dial.

A miniature earphone jack in the rear of the cabinet permits private listening without disturbing others. The whole unit is powered from seven mercury cells. It can also be operated from standard Penlite cells, but with somewhat shorter life.
